Freddy Adu believes Chelsea are missing Christian Pulisic in their side
Speaking to NJ.Bet (h/t Football.London), former USMNT star Freddy Adu believes that Chelsea are missing “the dynamic” Christian Pulisic in their side.
Pulisic has not played a single minute since going off against Manchester City in the league in early January. He is back on the grass now but may take some time before training with the full squad again.
The USA international started getting some regular minutes in games after the World Cup before suffering a setback. Since then, the Blues have signed Mykhaylo Mudryk, who plays in the same position as Pulisic – left wing.
Here’s what Adu said explaining why Chelsea are missing Pulisic (h/t Football.London):
“I think Chelsea are missing Pulisic. He’sthe kind of player that is a nuisance to deal with, he creates a lot of havoc, he’s always buzzing and running. He’s skilful and intelligent, but he’s a hard-working guy, so he can hurt you.
“I think Chelsea are missing him as he creates chances and havoc in front of goal, and they’re missing the dynamic play that he brings.
“I know they’ve got Joao Felix in and Mudryk, but right now Mudryk is having a tough time and the Premier League is hard to adjust to, and he’s having a hard time adjusting. But Pulisic has already adjusted, so I think the experience of the Premier League which he brings, Chelsea are missing that a lot right now.”
While what Adu is saying is agreed and Pulisic has those attributes to cause chaos among opposition defenders, he didn’t do much of that before the injury. A player with just 26 goals and 21 assists in 136 appearances isn’t really flying in Chelsea colours since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.
However, the 24-year-old is versatile and can play as a number nine, a position where the Blues are struggling. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out in the cold and Kai Havertz struggling to contribute, we could well see Pulisic leading the line when back fit.
The USA star has the pace, dribbling skills and good presence of space to cause problems for the opposition defenders. Whether he can do it consistently is the question.
Moreover, the 24-year-old has his contract expiring at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). He is linked with a move away from west London in the summer.
