PL tells Chelsea why they were denied a penalty vs West Ham United

The Premier League rules on why Chelsea wasn’t given a penalty against West Ham United

Chelsea was incensed by VAR’s decision to not grant them a penalty after a clear hand in the West Ham United box by Tomas Soucek.

Perhaps the result would have been different because a victory would have instilled a significant amount of optimism in Chelsea after a string of poor performances.

When Var overturned Tomas Soucek’s obvious handball in their own box, the Blues believed they had been scammed by the referee. Chelsea completely controlled the match, and they were rewarded when Joao Felix converted an Enzo Fernandez pass into the goal.

However, Hammer got back into the game when Emerson pounced from behind to score, and both teams were forced to settle for a draw.

Enzo Fernandez won the MOTM against Hammers.

West Ham thought they won the game when Soucek headed the ball home, but it was called offside following a thorough VAR review.

Conor Gallagher, who had won the loose ball close to the box, appeared to have a chance to give the Blues the lead, but the ball struck Soucek’s hand as he attempted to stop it.

Even though Var supported the referee’s decision, Chelsea’s players vigorously objected to referee Craig Pawson’s ruling. However, the Premier League responded to the ruling (h/t Express.UK) and stated in PGMOL, the organisation that oversees officials for all FA competitions, as follows:

“The ball struck that hand that ‘broke Soucek’s fall’ as he went to the ground, meaning the correct decision was for a penalty not to be awarded.”

Were robbed of a penalty against the West Ham game?

However, it appeared that he purposefully stopped the ball with his hands, and Pawson should have reviewed the decision since he might have had a different perspective.

Despite everything, this is by far the best performance of The Blues in recent weeks, and Felix was truly sensational with his exceptional movement, and the other brilliant players also had their moments in the match.

However, the decision seriously reduced our likelihood of winning the game; hopefully, we move on and concentrate on the next contest.
