A View From The Bridge

Chelsea to adopt new transfer strategy following lavish rebuild

Chelsea to revise their transfer strategy after heavy spending in January

According to INews, Chelsea are set to revise their transfer strategy going forward after spending over half a billion pounds in the two transfer windows this season.

The club believes that the initial phase of the squad rebuild is done, hence there will be a modest approach to transfer windows going forward.

Chelsea signed eight new players in the January window, one of which got loaned back to his club for the remainder of this season (Malo Gusto). They have already agreed on a deal to get Christopher Nkunku at the start of next season.

Despite the modest approach, the Blues won’t be behind if an opportunity to sign a marquee player comes along. They are in the race for Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice during the summer window.

Up front, they have signed a host of wingers but still lack a goal-scoring number nine. Having been dumped out of the Champions League squad, it won’t be a surprise if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang asks to be sold in the summer. He anyway hasn’t had a great time at Stamford Bridge since joining last summer.

The strategy is clear given the average age of players signed by the club in the last two windows. They want to build a squad of highly-talented young players with a sprinkle of experience involved to make them robust enough to compete for the big trophies.

Amidst all that though, the pressure must be on Graham Potter to make this team play an attractive brand of football and win games consistently. The Blues are currently ninth in the league table, with chances of finishing in the top four looking slim by the minute.

More Chelsea News:

They have the squad capable enough to go all the way in the Champions League though. And to play that competition next season, winning it this year seems like the more plausible solution.
