Chelsea offer lucrative offer to new signing Jimmy-Jay Morgan in club history
Jimmy-Jay Morgan becomes the highest-paying teenager as he signs a lucrative contract in Chelsea’s history after joining the team from Southampton.
The teenage player has been given a record-breaking professional contract by the Blues worth £6 million, according to the Mail (via Express.UK).
Since purchasing the club last year, Todd Boehly has spent £500m on Chelsea’s transfer window making 16 acquisitions, as The Blues also look to make an investment in the future.
Ultimately, the striker transfer was completed on the final day of the January transfer window as a result of the Blues’ last-minute effort.
Morgan was once an academy player for Chelsea when he was eight but joined Southampton due to problems commuting to Chelsea’s training.
However, the player evolved into a top-class striker at Southampton, where he scored 13 goals for the U16 team to secure promotion to the U18 team, where he collected six goals and four assists in 13 appearances.
He was also present on the bench for the Southampton match during their game against Brighton & Hove Albion, although he didn’t make his debut.
Manchester City and Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing the 17-year-old, but the Blues were quick to sign the player.
The 17-year-old will be making a homecoming since leaving the club’s youth academy as Chelsea made him the highest-paid teenager in the club’s history.
However, he will spend his formative years playing for the academy and will soon get his opportunity when Graham Potter thinks he is ready for his senior debut. With a hefty contract, the 17-year-old will be under enormous pressure, as the stakes will be high.
And hopefully, he will follow in the footsteps of previous academy graduates like Reece James, Mason Mount, and John Terry, who is the most well-known.
