Chelsea consider signing Portuguese sensation on a permanent deal next summer

Chelsea in talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Joao Felix permanently

Joao Felix moving to Chelsea has so far paid off since the player has shown the value he can add to the team. And it’s thought that the player might stick around permanently when the summer transfer window opens.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reports (h/t Express.UK), that Chelsea have discussed turning the temporary agreement for Felix into a permanent one once the summer transfer window opens.

Even though the 23-year-old has no buyout clause when his loan period at Stamford Bridge finishes in the forthcoming transfer season, the Blues are certain they can sign the player if he maintains his excellent form until then.

Felix could join Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer window.

After a dispute with Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, the former Golden Boy winner signed a loan deal with the Blues. However, after receiving a red card and a three-match suspension for his wild tackles, his Chelsea debut became a forgettable one.

But during those minutes, Felix displayed glimmers of his potential. And subsequently bounced back superbly, scoring Chelsea’s first goal in their 1-1 tie with West Ham United. And now, the club are open to making his stay permanent should he continue the same vein of form.

Given his tumultuous relationship with Simeone, the 23-year-old has reasons to not rejoin the Spanish heavyweights. Atletico Madrid are set to demand £100 million for Felix if Chelsea wants to sign him on a permanent basis. Todd Boehly might as well hand over his chequebook to Graham Potter.

Money has not been a major factor in the Blues’ player acquisitions under Todd Boehly because we could match Spanish teams’ valuations if we want to. And thus far, Felix’s play on the field has been nothing short of brilliant. We needed more creativity in our attacking line, which the 23-year-old can offer and help create opportunities for goals.

But we are still a few months before his loan expires. Chelsea must evaluate his performance so that the board and manager can decide what to do with him moving forward.
