Todd Boehly meets European honcho amidst talk of blockbuster summer transfer deal

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly meets PSG president to discuss the signing of Neymar

According to ESPN (h/t Metro), Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly met with the president of Paris-Saint German Nasser al Khelaifi to discuss the possible signing of Neymar in the coming summer.

The meeting took place on Tuesday in Paris when PSG were hosting Bayern Munich in the first leg of the last-16 tie of the Champions League.

The duo also spoke about the mishap that took place which stopped Hakim Ziyech from making a move to the French side on the deadline day of the January window. The Moroccan was in Paris to complete his loan move, but an admin error from Chelsea halted the move, prompting fury in the camp of the French champions.

Neymar, 31, has a contract with PSG until the summer of 2025, with a player option for one more year (Transfermarkt). He currently earns £26.6m a year in the French capital. The Ligue 1 champions are keen on getting rid of him in the coming summer.

But, do Chelsea have to concentrate their big investment of the summer window into bringing an ageing forward who has had professionalism questioned quite regularly throughout his career? One would doubt so.

However, it feels like amidst all the young signings Boehly has made, he is desperate to make a marquee signing at the club very soon. He was adamant to get Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, but former manager Thomas Tuchel rejected the idea.

It would be great if Chelsea’s recruitment department and current manager Graham Potter take a stance in not letting the Neymar transfer happen.

More Chelsea News:

There is doubting the quality of the player, but he has been divisive throughout his career. His demeanour on the field can be questionable at times. Add that to the fact that he is not the most hard-working player off the ball, and the transitional game of the Premier League won’t suit him.
