Opponent Watch: Borussia Dortmund handed squad boost ahead of Chelsea clash

Borussia Dortmund welcome back several stars ahead of UEFA Champions League clash vs Chelsea

Borussia Dortmund will host Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday night and have good news ahead of the clash.

The German team has been hampered by several injuries (h/t Football.London), but the return of Jilian Ryerson and Salih Ozcan, as well as Sebastian Haller, who had testicular cancer treatment, will give them encouragement ahead of the crunch clash. Dortmund were on a terrible league run going into the World Cup but have since turned their fortunes around.

The black and yellow are in excellent form, as they are third in the standings with four victories in their previous five games. They now have two more games to play before hosting Chelsea. The Blues, who have just one victory in four games, are currently eighth in the standings. Reece James’ return, though, will be great for the team and he will have built up enough match fitness by then.

Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Graham Potter’s team has struggled to find the back of the net lately, scoring just twice in their last six games, and they face a Dortmund team that has scored 15 goals in their last four games. This has raised concerns about the Blues’ shortcomings in front of goal and, omitting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the Champions League squad will not help.

Kai Havertz continues to be toothless in front of the goal, and it will be a tough challenge when we visit Signal Iduna Park because And based on this performance, it seems as though we face a challenge to be able to go any farther in the competition. However, with the new signings, if they remain committed through the rest of the season, we can flip it all around.

Chelsea’s Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez could help them negate Jude Bellingham.

Following Frank Lampard’s dismissal, Thomas Tuchel took over and enforced his rules, demonstrated his control, and chose players who would give all to help this team win the Champions League. Hopefully, Potter can work some magic of his own and walk the same tightrope.

Potter can create the same combination of youthful talents and seasoned players; all this squad needs is vision, and who knows? Maybe we can even win the Champions League. After all, he has a talented squad to call upon.
