Chelsea could look to hijack Liverpool’s interest in Moises Caicedo
In his column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea as quoted by Football. London, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea could look to hijack Liverpool’s move for talented Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo.
Caicedo plays his football for Brighton in the Premier League and has emerged as one of the best young midfielders in the world. His performances for the Seagulls have been exceptional so far.
The 21-year-old midfielder has had a great World Cup campaign in Qatar with Ecuador including scoring his first World Cup goal. He showed that he can control a midfield on the biggest stage at such a young age.
Liverpool are very much interested in Caicedo but it looks like Chelsea do not want to let their rivals have such a talented player that easily. The Blues could apparently make a move in January.
This is despite the fact that the Blues are very close to agreeing a record deal with Benfica for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez. That move is said to be in the final stages and very close to completion.
Enzo is an exceptional acquisition for the Blues. He is coming off a dream World Cup campaign where he got voted the ‘Young player of the tournament’ for his exploits for Argentina.
Chelsea though, do not seem to be satisfied with just Enzo. Jacobs has written in his column that Caicedo is a serious option for the Blues but that it will not be easy. Caicedo might prove to be a player who is easier to attain.
“Along with Enzo Fernandez, multiple sources tell me Moises Caicedo is very much on Chelsea’s radar in 2023. Brighton CEO Paul Barber doesn’t want to lose Caicedo (or Alexis Mac Allister) mid-season, but that doesn’t mean Chelsea won’t try.”
The Blues are really flexing their financial might this season but they need to decide at what point it becomes reckless. Signing too many players for the same position does not make sense and Chelsea need to analyze this.

We already have Conor Gallagher, Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria (on loan), N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for midfield and we look set to add Enzo here. Signing Caicedo on top of this does not seem to make sense and the Blues will be better off avoiding this.
