A View From The Bridge

“For me is everything”- Romelu Lukaku makes crystal clear admission on Chelsea future

Romelu Lukaku aims to find solution with Chelsea once his Inter loan spell ends

Speaking with Sky Sports Italia (h/t Daily Express), Romelu Lukaku aims to find a solution with Chelsea once his loan spell with Inter Milan ends at the end of this season.

He also expressed his desire to stay in Inter beyond this season as it is everything to him. After his previous spell at San Siro, the Belgium international spent only a season at Chelsea before moving back to Italy on loan in the preceding summer.

“I spoke to Chelsea about my relationship with the coach and I decided to come back to Inter. Things went very fast and I’m happy. I hope to stay at Inter, Inter for me is everything. But we need to find a way with Chelsea.”

The former Everton striker had a forgettable World Cup, when he was not fully fit to feature in any game from the start, and had a nightmare of the last 45 minutes against Croatia where he missed four clear-cut chances to help his country reach the knock-out stage.

Lukaku has had fitness issues this season as well. He missed 16 games for Inter in the first half of this season (Transfermarkt). He would be aiming to have a better second half and finish the campaign on a high before thinking about his future.

Following his £97.5m move from Inter to Chelsea in the summer of 2021, the Belgian did not have a great time at Stamford Bridge. He struggled for goals and consistent performances.

That combined with the fact that the player is willing to not come back to west London must trigger the Blues’ thinking of selling him in the summer, even for lesser money compared to what they bought him for.

Moreover, with what we saw of him last season, even if under a different manager, it looked like he may be more suited to the Italian game rather than the fast, transitional English game.

More Chelsea News:

Let’s think about a future where Lukaku is not part of Chelsea’s plans. It was not a good fit last season and this season has shown us next to nothing to convince that he could be a major success in seasons to come.
