Romano: Chelsea waiting to learn France international’s price tag before making move

Chelsea are waiting to get the price to sign striker Borussia Monchengladbach Marcus Thuram

According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are waiting to get the price from Borussia Monchengladbach to make the move to sign striker Marcus Thuram this month.

The French international, whose contract expires at the end of this season (Transfermarkt), has been linked for a move as a free agent to clubs like Inter Milan and Aston Villa. But, Chelsea are willing to pay a price and sign him in the January window itself.

It is also revealed that the potential happening of this deal is not related to the fact that the Blues are also in the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

Further to that update, InterNews has quoted SportMediaSet (h/t Football.London), saying Monchengladbach would want around €15m for Thuram if a deal has to be done in January.

So, one thing is clear that Chelsea could get a top striker for a cheaper price this month, rather than going for a fight with multiple clubs to sign him for free in the summer.

Given how much we have lacked goals and threats up front, getting a goal-scorer for some price would make more sense in a bid to salvage this season.

As of now, we have two completely out-of-touch number nines in the shape of Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Armando Broja is out for the season, while January signing David Datro Fofana is still young and probably an addition for the future.

Thuram, who has been at Monchengladbach since the start of the 2019/20 season, has had an excellent current season in Germany. His numbers are read as 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances in all competitions. He was decent for France off the bench in the World Cup as well, assisting the second Kylian Mbappe goal in the final.

More Chelsea News:

The 25-year-old is a striker who can also operate on the left wing. We need to make this deal happen sooner rather than later to add something different to our wilting forward line.
