Brighton's bid to replace Moises Caicedo rejected with Chelsea circling the South American.

Roberto de Zerbi urges Chelsea target Moises Caicedo to stay put till the summer

Speaking in an interview as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi has commented on Moises Caicedo‘s future amidst links of a transfer to Chelsea.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the talented Ecuadorian midfielder. Caicedo is one of the most prodigiously talented players going around in the English top flight and his performances have garnered a lot of plaudits.

The Brighton man has been exceptional in midfield for the Seagulls this season. He broke into the team initially under Graham Potter but has grown to a whole new level just like the team under Roberto de Zerbi.

Caicedo also had a great World Cup with Ecuador. He was one of the South American nation’s most exciting players on display. His performances caught the eye of many clubs around Europe.

At his age, Caicedo is already a well-rounded player. He seems to have a very calm head over his relatively young shoulders. He has also shown that he is a big-game player impressing against the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

Speaking about his links to Chelsea, here is what Roberto de Zerbi had to say about what the future holds for the talented midfielder.

“I hope he finishes the season with us, but it’s always difficult to be certain. The best solution is that he finishes the season with us and for him, in the summer, it’s better then if he changes teams”

De Zerbi could not have been more clearer in his quotes. He has realised that Caicedo will not be a Brighton player for too long. It is only a matter of time before the big clubs come fishing.

However, the Italian manager is hoping that Caicedo doesn’t desert the project mid-season. They have already lost Leandro Trossard to Arsenal and do not want to disrupt something that they are building so well.

It remains to be seen if Caicedo can resist the temptation of reuniting with his former manager at the Bridge. He would be a great signing for Chelsea but is better off developing at Brighton for the remainder of the campaign.
