A View From The Bridge

Report: Chelsea convinced that 19-year-old has a bright future at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea hierarchy convinced Levi Colwill will be a huge player for the club

According to Secret Scout (h/t Football. London), the Chelsea hierarchy are convinced that on-loan Blues youngster Levi Colwill will have a huge future at the club once he returns.

Colwill is on loan at Brighton for the season. He was signed by the Seagulls upon the insistence of current Chelsea manager Graham Potter and has had a really great time at the Amex stadium.

The talented left-footed centre-back shot to prominence during his loan spell with Huddersfield Town. He has been continuing his development very well and looks like he will have a very good future in the game.

The fact that Potter is the manager of Chelsea could go a long way in seeing him get regular game time at the club next summer. It is obvious that the English manager rates him and it makes sense to back a youngster.

The Blues are not short of options at centre-back. They have a number of players in that position but at least three of them are ageing and might not have long left in the game.

Apart from new signing Benoit Badiashile, none of the options that Potter has at his disposal right now are left-footed either. There is Malang Sarr who is out on loan but he does not seem to have a future here.

This is where Colwill comes in. Managers who like to play with the ball really appreciate having a right-footed defender on the right side and a left-footed defender on the left side to open up more passing lanes.

This could be one of the main reasons why the Blues decided to go with Badiashile. This is also where Colwill can come in next season and contribute, being a useful player for Chelsea.

Colwill, if he can continue developing on a similar level, has a huge future in the game. Let’s see how the Blues go about handling the prodigiously talented youngster.
