Considering a lack of regular playing time, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is searching for new teams and could leave Chelsea if the same problem continues. He has started just four Premier League games for the Blues this campaign.
Aubameyang is willing to play nearly for free if Barcelona sign him, but Chelsea want to prevent paying his wages, according to the ES (h/t Daily Mail).
This follows after the ex-Barcelona striker’s decision to sit out the FA Cup match against Manchester City that ended in a 4-0 loss because of a back injury, according to the coach, and was double substituted in a 0-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League.
After a great season with Barcelona, where he netted 13 goals in 21 games for the Catalans in all competitions, the 33-year-old attempted to carry over his success at Chelsea. But things are yet to work out in west London for the former Arsenal player.
He only scored once in nine games for the Blues this season, and Graham Potter now considers him a peripheral figure. And according to Standard Sport, Barcelona are looking to bring the striker back. Should the 33-year-old leave Chelsea, Armando Broja, who has been sidelined for a season with an ACL injury, would leave the Blues without a natural striker.
Even though Chelsea needed an obvious striker who can be proficient in front of goal, they went ahead and signed Joao Felix, who isn’t a No. 9 by trade. But hopefully, the Portuguese forward fills in well for us until the end of the season.
Felix’s arrival could also be a show of a lack of trust in Aubameyang, who is yet to impress in Chelsea blue.
Although they should keep the striker this season since they won’t have a centre-forward and David Datro Fofana, the new forward they signed, is yet to garner experience to be a regular starter here.
And the club will have to make a big decision here. It’s understandable that despite having adequate time to demonstrate his talent, Aubameyang was still unable to score many goals.
However, they should keep the 33-year-old until the conclusion of the season as he still has the ability to score goals. He could still be utilised in pivotal matches off the bench or even in the first XI. He may desire to leave Chelsea, but it’s best to keep him on board until the summer and then take a definitive decision on him.
After all, we’re not under threat of losing him for free, since his contract lasts until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).
