According to The Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, who is on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, has picked a quad injury that will keep him out of action for the next four to six weeks.

The 19-year-old, who has been in good form in the last few weeks, picked up this injury during training. Brighton manager Roberto Di Zerbi did initially say that the player is a doubt for the upcoming Leicester City game, but the latest update suggests he will more than just one game.

Since the season’s restart, Colwill has been in good form and starting games regularly. Last week against Liverpool came one of his better performances in his short yet progressive first-team career so far.

Such was his form that England manager Gareth Southgate had started considering the 19-year-old as an option for the national team squad for the European Champions qualifiers in March. This injury may have come at the wrong time for the youngster.

Colwill, who has previously spent time on loan at Huddersfield Town, has a pathway to succeed at Chelsea. It is reported that the defender will be a part of the Blues’ first-team squad next season onwards.

The England U-21 international is a left-footed centre-back who can operate as a left-back too. He is good on the ball, has a great pace to match up with rapid attackers, reads the game well defensively and does not shirk away from physical duels.

Recent reports have been linking him with Manchester City and Bayern Munich. His contract at Chelsea expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). So, the Blues would need to extend his deal if they are to use him in the coming seasons.

Before all that, we hope that Colwill is back fit soon and playing well for Brighton!
