Monaco boss warns Chelsea that Benoit Badiashile is targeted by other clubs as well
As per a story from GOAL (h/t Football.London), AS Monaco boss Philippe Clement has warned Chelsea that defender Benoit Badiashile is targeted by other clubs as well.
As initially reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic in England a few days ago, the Blues opened talks to sign Badiashile for a deal that would be worth around £30m.
It was mentioned in the report that Badiashile is part of the left-sided defender search Chelsea have been doing since the summer transfer window when they agreed on personal terms with Josko Gvardiol but the fee became too high to pay.
Gvardiol has been linked with the Blues since then, but the price has gone up beyond €90m now, hence the west London club are looking at other options.
Badiashile has been one of the better young defenders in the European circuit in the last year or so. He is a left-footed defender who can play as a centre-back or as a left-back if required.
But, if the warning from the Monaco boss is to go by, Chelsea might have to accelerate their process to complete the signature. We have seen in the summer when we had agreed on terms with the player, only for other clubs (namely Barcelona) to swoop in and sign him.
If we are not getting Gvardiol, Badiashile could be an ideal like-for-like option for beefing up the left-sided defensive position. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would go after the Croatia international in the future as well.

We resumed our campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Bournemouth. The next game is against Nottingham Forest away on New Year’s Day. The hope is that the good form picked up from the win against the Cherries can be continued at the Forest Ground.
