Manchester United make ‘first move’ to sign Chelsea target playing in Spain

Manchester United make first move to sign Chelsea target Joao Felix

According to Relevo (h/t Football.London), Manchester United have made the first move to sign talented Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on loan with Chelsea also interested in him.

The Red Devils have apparently made a €4m offer to take the talented 23-year-old on loan until the end of the season and it is understood their offer does not include the option to buy.

This definitely comes as a blow to the Blues who are also interested in the Portuguese forward. Felix is very talented and there are a number of clubs interested in signing him.

Felix’s time at Atletico Madrid has been a very trying one. He was signed from Benfica and arrived with huge expectations. The Golden Boy winner was expected to be Atletico’s replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

Fast forward a few seasons and Griezmann finds himself back at Atletico after a failed stint at Barcelona and Felix has come nowhere close to replacing the Frenchman in the Spanish capital.

It is not that Felix has lost his talent. The Portuguese forward continues to be one of the most talented players going around. He just needs to get a chance to play in the right season.

A move away from Atletico Madrid though might just be what is needed to rejuvenate his career. Felix would thrive in a team that loves playing with the ball and Chelsea and Man United are perfect fits especially given the need for a striker at boht clubs.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can use immediate competition while Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani’s exits last year have left Manchester United two men short up front.

It is understood that Atletico are demanding in the region around €12m-€13m for the loan. If they stick to their evaluation, they are likely to reject Man United’s proposal.

More Chelsea News:

Right now, it looks like Man United are just testing the waters with their proposal. We still have time and if we are really serious about Felix, we need to be quick and try to bring the talented Portuguese forward to SW6.
