According to journalist Simon Phillips (h/t Football.London), German champions Bayern Munich and English champions Manchester City are interested in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The young defender, who is currently on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion for the whole of this season, has impressed with his performances of late. The commanding display against Liverpool last weekend was another example of that.

These performances have attracted the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, who is considering handing the 19-year-old a senior England team call-up for the games in March.

A few days ago, Metro reported that Chelsea have plans to keep Colwill and have him in their first-team squad beyond this season. He has a contract with the Blues until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt).

City and Bayern have been shaky at the back this season. The English champions have been conceding goals and giving up chances a lot this time compared to their elite years.

So, it makes as to why they would be interested in a young defender who is doing well in the Premier League at the moment. Colwill’s left-footedness is an advantage as well.

If we look at the attributes the 19-year-old possesses, he is good on the ball, has a recovery speed to catch up with attackers in transition, is physically strong and does not shirk away from duels.

More Chelsea News:

So, we should do our best to keep him at the club once he returns from Brighton. The hope is that he does well on the south coast for the rest of this season and comes back fit and healthy for the pre-season. Moreover, with his contract expiring in 2025, it might be a sensible idea to offer an extension so that interests from the clubs are guarded away.
