Leipzig sporting director confirms that Christopher Nkunku will go to Chelsea
Speaking to BILD, as quoted by Evening Standard, RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that Christopher Nkunku will join Chelsea in the summer.
Standard Sport reported that a deal was agreed between both parties in October itself, as Chelsea continue their squad revamp under the new ownership. It is revealed that the Blues agreed to pay more than the player’s release clause of £52.8m to get this move done.
Nkunku has been one of the best forwards in the Bundesliga in the last couple of years. He was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year at the end of last season, showing how consistent he was for Leipzig in that period.
Here’s what Eberl said regarding the Frenchman’s departure to Chelsea (h/t Evening Standard):
“The signs are very, very clear that he’s moving to Chelsea.”
It was a shame that we could not see the 25-year-old in the World Cup because of the injury he picked in the lead-up to the tournament. Other than that though, he has been Leipzig’s main man.
Following on from incredible returns last season where he got 20 goals and 15 assists in 34 league games, the Frenchman has so far scored 12 goals and assisted two in 15 league games this season.
Nkunku is a quality player who can operate anywhere across the forward line. He is good at dribbling, creating and scoring chances, working hard off the ball and possessing good pace to trouble the back-line with runs in behind.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player would be an excellent addition to us from next season onwards. His dynamism and goal-scoring threat would be a treat to watch. Him partnering up with the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and co. would bring pace, goals and a direct approach to the team’s attacking play.
