21-year-old midfielder joining Chelsea a ‘real possibility’, says Ben Jacobs

Moises Caicedo being monitored by Chelsea in the January transfer window

Chelsea are “firmly” interested in Moises Caicedo, and if Brighton & Hove Albion starts talks with the player, the Blues might take advantage. Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed on Twitter that Caicedo joining Chelsea is a possibility if the circumstances are right.

However, the 21-year-old is also being pursued by Liverpool and Newcastle United. Since the Enzo Fernandez transfer fell through, Chelsea have switched their focus to the 21-year-old.

Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are in the final six months of their contracts and Kante’s frequent injuries mean that we are without his services more often than not in recent months. The player has missed the majority of the season and has been linked with Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr, but nothing has materialised as of yet.

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfield has also expressed interest in joining Chelsea. Caicedo previously played for Graham Potter at Brighton. The Ecuadorian was acquired by Potter from Independiente del Valle, and ever since, he has started every game for him.

On paper, it would make sense that he chooses the Blues over Newcastle and Liverpool, having played under Potter and knowing his system of play; on top of that, he is only 21 years old, and Chelsea could have a quality midfielder for the next several years.

The player is accustomed to playing at Premier League tempo and would be a great addition to Chelsea. Potter may even be thrilled to reunite with the player who Brighton signed from Independiente del Valle while he was in charge.

With Denis Zakaria playing very less and set to return to Juventus this summer and Jorginho unable to run the midfield as he used to, our midfield has lacked dynamism and could use fresh additions.

The 21-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder, which will help provide stability to Chelsea’s midfield, since the team could use a midfielder who can alter the game’s outcome at both ends of the pitch.

More Chelsea News:

Undoubtedly, this would be a terrific acquisition, even if it comes at a high cost and we would be wise to beat the Magpies and Liverpool to his signature.
