Graham Potter has backed Chelsea to make a bid for Enzo Fernandez
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has backed the club’s bid to sign Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues have been heavily linked with the player since the end of the World Cup. A few days ago, it was reported that Benfica have rejected a £112m bid from Chelsea as they want the release clause of £106m to be paid.
Express reported the reasoning behind the Portuguese club’s insistence on the clause being paid. Fernandez’s former club River Plate is due 25% of the transfer fee.
Transfer guru Ben Jacobs revealed that Chelsea are looking to offer more than the asking price to make the payment terms in their favour.
The latest on this is that the Blues contemplating making an £87m bid and offering three players in return. The three players are Hakim Ziyech, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos.
As expected, this saga goes on and may not be resolved until the very end of this transfer window. Telegraph reported that Chelsea have ruled out anything this month.
Looking at how well Fernandez has done Benfica since arriving in the summer, it is understandable why Potter is backing the club to sign him. The former River Plate midfielder continued his good form in the World Cup, helping the nation lift the cup and win the best young player of the tournament award in the process.
He is someone who can dominate a midfield on his own. Currently, Chelsea lack a player of this profile, which is hindering their progress big time.
