22-year-old wants to stay at Chelsea despite interest from five PL teams

Transfer News: Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea amid interest from clubs

Despite interest from five Premier League clubs, Conor Gallagher has no desire to leave Chelsea since Graham Potter considers him to be an essential midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, the 22-year-old wants to keep playing for the Blues and is not interested in leaving Stamford Bridge.

Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Everton, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United have emerged as top suitors for the player, but Gallagher has already made his decision to stay at Chelsea.

The former Brighton manager is also opposed to Gallagher departing since it will weaken Chelsea’s midfield depth. The England international spent the 2021–22 season on loan at Crystal Palace, where he helped the club reach the FA Cup semi-final and a mid-table finish and also contributed eight goals and three assists in 34 Premier League games.

Conor Gallagher doesn’t want to leave Chelsea.

He returned to Chelsea after the end of his loan spell but did not start many games under Thomas Tuchel. Gallagher, however, saw regular gametime when Potter was acquired from Brighton, as the youngster made 12 league appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

It’s a wise decision Gallagher has made considering Chelsea don’t have enough midfielders given injuries to N’Golo Kante and Denis Zakaria.

Furthermore, new acquisition Andrey Santos is yet to make his debut for the club and alongside Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei, he is seen as an investment for the future.

Jorginho has also been inconsistent figures recently, and if Gallagher departs, it would create a significant issue for Chelsea’s midfield. Moreover, Gallagher is a bridge between the experienced players and the youngsters in this team.

A Chelsea midfield revamp on the cards?

He’s not old and on the decline, and neither is he inexperienced in a way that would make Chelsea nervous if they have to depend on him in big games.

The 22-year-old did not immediately make the impact he had hoped for, but he still has a long season ahead of him, and he appears to be improving as the game goes on, which is a positive sign.

More Chelsea News:

His eight goals and five assists for Palace have shown that he can be a valuable player from midfield and that he has goals and assists to his game. And perhaps he will play a significant role in helping Potter’s team finish in the top four of the Premier League.
