Club News: Chelsea working to terminate the contract of on-loan midfielder

Chelsea working to terminate the contract of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are working to terminate the contract of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko after his disastrous loan spell at AC Milan.

Bakayoko, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017 from AS Monaco for a deal worth around £40m, has his contract in west London until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).

The 28-year-old has had an underwhelming time with Milan, and the Rossoneri are not using him this season in danger of unlocking a £13m purchase clause based on the appearances made. As a result, he has not even played a single minute for the Italian champions this season. Last season also, he only played a total of 607 minutes.

Before his loan move to San Siro last summer (2021), Bakayoko spent time on loan at Napoli, where he was one of the regular starters during the 2020/21 season, making 44 appearances in all competitions.

At the moment, neither Milan nor Chelsea are interested in keeping Bakayoko, whose price tag is plummeting to the ground at the rate of knots.

If the Blues do not release him now or before the summer, the Frenchman will come back to Stamford Bridge for his final season and the club will have to pay his £120,000-a-week wage.

Things have not worked out for Bakayoko since his move to Chelsea in 2017.

It remains to be seen what happens with the future of the player once his contract with Chelsea is terminated. It is a shame that things did not work out for him at Stamford Bridge, just after an excellent spell at Monaco, where he was the main reason behind the French side’s league title win in 2017 and the run to the Champions League semi-final.

More Chelsea News:

What the contract termination would do is make Bakayoko a free agent. If any club wants to sign him, it would be a low-risk move from a financial viewpoint. We can only hope that his career gets revived sooner rather than later.
