Chelsea to rival Liverpool for the services of Portugal international

Chelsea to rival Liverpool for the signature of Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are set to rival Liverpool for the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes in the summer.

A few weeks ago, it was reported in The Telegraph that Liverpool are interested in Nunes and will look to strike a deal with Wolves in the coming summer.

Now, the 24-year-old has admirers at Chelsea as well. The club will challenge Liverpool for his signature when he comes to the market after just one season with the west Midlands club.

Chelsea set to rival Liverpool for midfielder Matheus Nunes.

The Reds were close to signing Nunes last summer, but he eventually went to Wolves from Sporting Lisbon for £38m. He is set to cost around £44m in the coming summer.

Along with Nunes, Chelsea have other midfield targets lined up. They are still in the race to sign Moises Caicedo this month, while a summer interest in Declan Rice is there. They are figuring out a way to get Enzo Fernandez from Benfica as well. Everton’s Amadou Onana has been the latest on that list.

Chelsea will target the bolstering of their central midfield department now and in the summer. With Jorginho leaving and N’Golo Kante’s injury woes not relenting, the Blues are short in that area.

As a result of that, Graham Potter had to play youngster Lewis Hall in midfield alongside Jorginho against Liverpool at Anfield. That cannot be served for a long-term purpose.

Nunes is a quality player who carries the ball from midfield expertly, is a good passer, has a good recovery pace in defensive transition and has a goal or two in him. He is an all-action midfield player.
