According to Sun (h/t Mirror), England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is a Chelsea target among others, will reject a new contract offer from Borussia Dortmund.
Along with Chelsea, other high-profile clubs including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in signing the young midfield sensation.
If Bellingham does not sign a new deal, Dortmund will naturally look to sell him in the summer. The starting price is £100m, though it may go as high as the bidding war could take it.
The German side’s contract offer contains wages of around £180,000-a-week, but the player is expected to get wage offers in the region of £300,000-a-week and more from the clubs that are targeting him.
There is no denying the 19-year-old’s quality and the prospective price tag that comes with it. His performances for Dortmund and England just show how good he already is. The scary thing is that he is so young and can get so much better as well in the coming decade.
Chelsea are in the market to bolster their midfield. They are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo this month, although their opening bid of £55m was rejected a few days ago.
Irrespective of signing the Ecuadorian, it is a no-brainer to think how much better the Blues can become with Bellingham in the side. The main roadblock is the number of clubs involved in the race, meaning no one has a free run at the player.
What it does is put the onus on the player to choose his destination, irrespective of the money offered. He knows almost every club interested in him would pay the premium to sign him.
While the Englishman not accepting the new deal at Dortmund is good news, it would be a far reach to get him to Chelsea. But, we never say never in the transfer market.
