Chelsea table £30.8m bid for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries
According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica (h/t Metro), Chelsea have tabled a £30.8m bid to sign Inter Milan and the Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries.
The report also reveals that the Serie A side would be wanting much more than that if they are to let of the 26-year-old. They would demand around £48.4m.
A few months ago, Football.London reported that the Nerazzurri are not in favour of selling Dumfries, but their financial condition leaves them with not much option if an offer comes.
The same report updated that Chelsea are concerned by the injuries Reece James has picked up in the last year or so. Hence, they are looking at the Dutch international as a backup option.
Since arriving at Milan in the summer of 2021, Dumfries has made 68 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting 10.
The former PSV Eindhoven player can play both as a right-back and a right-wing-back. He is great at both ends of the pitch, be it the creation of chances from wide areas or being solid defensively in one-on-one situations.
James has indeed had some bad luck with injuries in the last 12 months. After missing a few games in the middle of last season, the England international picked up a knee injury in October that kept him out for the whole of the World Cup.
Upon his comeback in the game against Bournemouth on December 27, the 23-year-old got another setback. He is currently back in training ahead of the Liverpool encounter.
