Contract News: Chelsea ready new contract for veteran South American ace

Chelsea are preparing a contract extension offer for Thiago Silva

According to the Times, Chelsea are preparing a contract extension offer for Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva which will keep him at the club beyond his 39th birthday.

The Brazilian centre-back seems ageless in his performances. In fact, he seems to be getting better with age and the player has been an absolute rock at the back for Chelsea this season.

The 38-year-old is playing football in arguably the toughest league in football. He is a starter for the Blues week in week out and almost never drops below a 7/10 in any of the games.

Despite being injury prone quite a bit in recent seasons, Silva has managed to stay absolutely fit this campaign. He has been the lone saving grace in what has been an absolutely appalling season for the Blues.

Considering how well the former PSG man is playing, it is absolutely no surprise that Chelsea are keen on handing him a new deal. The Brazilian does not seem close to retirement and has time left at the top level.

As long as Silva is dropping masterclass after masterclass in defence for Chelsea, there is no reason why the Blues must not keep him for as long as they can, as the Brazilian offers a lot on and off the pitch.

We have quite a few defenders who are very young in the likes of Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah. There cannot be a better player to learn the trade from than the Brazilian.

Silva has adapted his game so well with his advancing age. He is not the quickest centre-back going around but not many players can boast of the positioning and anticipation that the Brazilian has.

More Chelsea News:

It is not a surprise that Silva continues to be so important for Chelsea. He deserves a contract extension and let’s hope this is not his last one.
