A View From The Bridge

Chelsea on the fence on whether star midfielder will extend Stamford Bridge stay

Chelsea unsure of whether Italian star Jorginho will renew his contract

According to the Evening Standard (h/t Football. London), Chelsea are still unsure if Italian star Jorginho will renew his contract by the end of this season, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Jorginho’s future at Stamford Bridge has been under scrutiny for quite some time now. He has been an important player for Graham Potter since his arrival but he is yet to pen down a new deal.

There have been oscillating reports as to whether or not the former Napoli man will stay at the club beyond his current deal. He continues being important and if he were to stay, it would be good for Chelsea.

After a poor season last time around when Jorginho really struggled, the Italian seems to be in pretty decent form this season. He provides the control from midfield that the Chelsea team really need.

The Italian is not the only player who is out of contract. His teammate and midfield partner, N’Golo Kante is also out of contract and the Frenchman has had an unbelievably torrid time with injuries. Talks are still ongoing with Jorginho over a new deal. Chelsea do not have a clear indication from the Italian midfielder if he would actually stay and are said to be 50-50 about it.

Jorginho is one of the senior members of the Blues midfield. He does seem caught out sometimes when the game is stretched but there is still a lot that he can offer to the team.

Apart from his own game, the Italian can be kept at the club with the vision of helping his young teammates. The Blues have a few talented young midfielder who can learn from Jorginho. While the Italian is not without his faults, his experience could prove to be an invaluable asset for the club and his teammates.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if the Blues manage to convince Jorginho to stay on at Stamford Bridge. It will not be easy but it is something that could help us and we must pursue it.
