Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante closing in on a return from long injury layoff
According to French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Metro), Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is closing in on a return from a long injury layoff. He aims to be back by the end of February.
Kante has not played a single minute of football since picking up a serious hamstring injury in the second week of the Premier League season in a match against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
The French 2018 World Cup winner, who missed the World Cup in December due to this injury, has been back training by himself at Cobham since last week. With him being out for so long, of course, it is sensible to give him enough time to be fully fit and ready for some action in the competitive field.
Previously, Chelsea boss Graham Potter did mention that the former Leicester City midfielder won’t return to the squad until March. But, the recovery seems to be going ahead of time for the 31-year-old.
Kante is one of the key players in the Blues squad. It is a shame that we have not seen anything of him throughout this season. His presence and drive in midfield were such a key part of the reason why we won the Premier League in 2017 and the Champions League in 2021.
The Frenchman’s contract here expires in the coming summer (Transfermarkt). A few days ago, the Telegraph reported that Chelsea are focusing on making the player sign a contract extension. His mind is bent towards staying in west London as well.
Even though it has been a long layoff, we hope that Kante is back fit and firing to help us achieve our targets for the remainder of this campaign.

The other hope is that the 31-year-old remains fit for the majority of next season, provided he signs an extension, and shows how much Chelsea have missed him in the middle of the park.
