Chelsea midfield target Moises Caicedo addresses transfer rumours about him
Speaking to the Official Brighton and Hove Albion website, Chelsea midfield target and Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has addressed the transfer rumours about him in recent weeks.
The Ecuador international has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window. The Athletic reported a few days ago that Brighton have rejected an opening bid of £55m for the player from Chelsea. They want £75m+ to sell the player this month.
The Blues continue to remain in contention though. Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports has revealed that if no deal is struck now, the west London club to try again in the summer.
Caicedo has been one of Brighton’s best players this season. Here’s what he said about his stay with the Seagulls and transfer rumours (h/t Official Brighton website):
“I am focused on Brighton. I am here, I’m playing every day. Things from outside don’t trouble me, nor does it take that focus away because I’m focused only on here.
“I handle [the speculation] well. You hear rumours here and there, but I only try to be focused on the club where I am now, the club which opened the doors for me to be playing every week.”
These are standard quotes from a player who is trying to be respectful of his current employers. This shows that he is a great professional who is not easily swayed away by strong interest from big clubs.
Caicedo’s stock has risen multiple folds since he arrived in the Premier League. In the last few months, he has been one of the best central midfielders in the division.
The Ecuador international had an excellent time in the World Cup too. He is a fantastic passer of the ball, can progress with it well, reads the game expertly and makes an impact in both boxes.
With Jorginho leaving following his contract expiry in the summer and N’Golo Kante’s injury woes not relenting, it does make sense for Chelsea to sign a midfielder or two. They have lacked legs and dynamism in that department even with the former in the side.

So, the Blues should continue with their quest to sign Caicedo. Even if the move does not happen now, they should go back for him in the summer and complete the deal.
