“Can make a difference”- Graham Potter has high hopes for Joao Felix at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Graham Potter with his comments on the signing of Joao Felix

Speaking to the press conference ahead of the game against Fulham (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Graham Potter shared his views on the club completing the loan signing of forward Joao Felix.

The Blues have today unveiled the Portugal international to the world. He will be here on loan till the end of this season. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that there is no option to buy in the deal. In fact, Atletico Madrid have confirmed that the player signed a one-year extension with them before moving to west London.

Felix becomes the fourth signing Chelsea have made this month, after completing the deals to sign David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile.

Here’s what Potter said about the arrival of the former Benfica star (h/t Football.London):

“He’s [Felix] a quality player, can make a difference in the final third of the pitch, young but has obviously had a lot of really good experience. He’s a quality player that gives everyone a lift.

“My thoughts are that you have to fix the team. It’s not just one person to solve the problems. You have to fix the team, attack better, create chances, and then whoever is playing then can score and the team can win. That is the focus. Clearly, though, Joao is a top player, a talented player, and he can help the team.”

Felix has had an on-and-off form in an Atleti shirt since his arrival from Benfica. Understandably so, the system preferred by Diego Simeone has not suited the 24-year-old.

He had an excellent World Cup, showing what he can do when offered the freedom to perform in the final third. He is a versatile player who can play in most positions across the forward line, chiefly as a number 10.

About his attributes, the new Chelsea signing is good at taking defenders on in tight spaces, can score and create goals and has the canny knack of picking up good space in between the lines to hurt opponents.

More Chelsea News:

While our problem this season is more than just scoring goals, the need to sign forwards is apparent. Felix is not a number nine, but he can create chances and score often. After this deal, the club should look to bring in a natural goal-scorer before the end of this transfer window.
