Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has rejected a move to Turkish side Adana Demirspor. A deal was eventually made between the player and the Turkish club, but according to Sky Italy’s Manuele Baiocchini (h/t The Pride of London), the transfer collapsed and the player will now remain at AC Milan on loan through the end of the current campaign.
The 28-year-old midfielder cost £40 million from AS Monaco to Chelsea under Roman Abramovich’s ownership before the 2017-18 season.
However, he has struggled to establish himself as he devolved into a peripheral player, and the Blues have tried to get rid of him in recent years. The 28-year-old only played 43 senior matches for Chelsea across competitions and has spent a majority of his time since moving to SW6 on loan to other clubs.
After a lacklustre start at Chelsea, Bakayoko experienced numerous loan stints. In the summer of 2018, he was moved on loan to AC Milan, where he too failed to make a statement before being sent back to Chelsea.
Once more, he saw himself being loaned to Monaco, who had the option to purchase him for £38 million. The French giants were unimpressed with his performance in France, and he returned to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea attempted to sell him but no suitors came. Napoli approached them about taking the player on loan.
However, he had a terrific run at Napoli and found his form again, but the Italian didn’t sign the player as he returned to Chelsea in the hopes of getting more playing time there.
However, Bakayoko was once again loaned out, this time to AC Milan on a two-year deal. Since then, he has struggled to
There was apparently an agreement for Bakayoko to move Turkish club Adana Demirspor, but the deal has apparently fallen through.
While at Milan, he has yet to appear in a single match this season after having won the Serie A title last campaign. And once his loan spell ends in the summer, he will return to Chelsea.
Should Chelsea give him the chance to rediscover his form given how much the squad needs a central midfielder? He has had far too many of those. Unless a miracle happens, it is hard to see Graham Potter making the 28-year-old a bid part of his first-team set-up.
Instead, we should be looking to cut our losses as soon as possible.
