Report: Chelsea launch enquiry into severe injury crisis

Chelsea launch a medical review to look into the current injury crisis

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea will conduct a medical review to look into the continued injury crisis of the team amidst fears that the club’s decision to sack the previous staff has backfired.

Denis Zakaria picked up an injury in Chelsea’s defeat to Fulham on Thursday night to make it 11 players out for the Blues at this point in time.

The others include short-term and long-term absentees, namely N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Christian Pulisic, Reece James, Raheem Sterling, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell and more.

The club’s owners are convinced that the absence of key stars is halting the progress of the team under Graham Potter. The team has won one game out of five since the resumption of the season post the World Cup. Not great signs!

Reports say that Potter’s future is not under threat even after the latest defeat to Fulham. A few days ago, it was revealed that Todd Boehly and co. will back the manager even if he fails to deliver a top-four finish. At this moment, Chelsea fans may take a top-six finish as well.

While there is hope that most of the injured could be back by February, the club is going to review the medical department and look into any loopholes that may have contributed to this crisis.

When Boehly and his side took over, Chelsea sacked long-serving medical Paco Biosca. Head physio Thierry Laurent was relieved of his duties via a zoom call. This decision shocked some of the senior players in the squad.

There is a feeling that players like James and Wesley Fofana were rushed back quickly, hence they picked up another injury following their return.

More Chelsea News:

Whatever the situation of the medical team, it is imperative that they get things right. Having a top-class medical department is a key cog in a football club’s progress. Let’s hope the review goes well and things are put in place for a smoother recovery and treatment service for the players.
