A View From The Bridge

Chelsea in direct contact with Ligue 1 side for 19-year-old full-back

Chelsea in direct contact with Olympique Lyon for Malo Gusto

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in direct contact with Olympique Lyon for talented young right-back Malo Gusto with the player also open to the move.

As @sebnonda claimed, Chelsea’s verbal bid for Gusto was turned down by the French club who want to keep hold of the teenager at least until the summer. However, that could be really difficult.

Chelsea are set to bid for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto as a backup option for Reece James. The English international has been injured way too often in his career and the Blues need a reliable backup.

Gusto has really impressed with his performances for the French club. He is considered a huge French talent who has great potential in the game. He could realise that at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old’s contract there runs up until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Gusto is undoubtedly going to join a big club soon and Chelsea are hoping to convince him in the coming days.

As talented as James is, he has been unable to stay fit for a sustained period. This means that Chelsea have often had to depend on other players to fill in in the absence of the Englishman.

Malo Gusto could be on his way to Stamford Bridge

This is where Gusto makes a lot of sense. Unlike a lot of players who Chelsea have signed in recent times, this is a signing that they actually need and would be a good addition.

Gusto is a right-back who can either play as a centre-back or a right-wing-back. His abilities going forward are well-documented but he can also hold his own defensively.

In the next few days, we’ll know if we manage to sign Gusto. He will be a great signing but he is still very young and this could be one for the future rather than the present.
