A View From The Bridge

“Half of the player”- Hasselbaink gives a scathing indictment of inconsistent 23-year-old Chelsea star

Chelsea icon gives a scathing review of Blues forward Kai Havertz

Speaking to Betway (h/t Metro), former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has made a scathing review of Blues forward Kai Havertz, claiming they need to find other solutions in the market.

Since his winning goal in the Champions League final in 2021, Havertz has not been able to consistently deliver for Chelsea. To be honest, the German international has not lived up to the expectations with which he came to Stamford Bridge in the first place.

If we look at his numbers for the Blues, the 23-year-old has 28 goals and 15 assists in 116 appearances in all competitions. Now, that is not good enough for a player who is playing most of his game either as a number nine or as a support striker.

Here’s what Hasselbaink said when asked about Havertz at Chelsea (h/t Metro):

“Christian Pulisic has tried his best recently but Chelsea aren’t creating enough. Kai Havertz is half of the player that he was last year so they need more players who can come into the team and make a difference straight away.”

Jimmy has mentioned that the German is currently half of the player compared to last year. Last season, he had 14 goals and six assists in 47 appearances in all competitions, with 44 of those appearances coming as a striker or a support striker. That is not good enough as well.

So, there are consistency issues with the 23-year-old. Chelsea have scored 20 goals in 17 league games so far this season. That is an average of 1.17 goals per game. For a 38-game season, that average will take them to 44 goals. Last season, teams who scored 44 goals or less in a season finished ninth and below in the table.

There are other fundamental issues with this team at the moment, and goal-scoring is at the forefront of it. Manager Graham Potter needs to rectify that otherwise, this campaign will become unsalvageable very soon.

More Chelsea News:

For Havertz, he needs to pick up the consistency of his game. It is not as if Germany went too far in the World Cup that he did not get enough recovery time to prepare for the second half of this season. If his performance does not go up, the manager needs to drop him for good.
