Chelsea have joined the race to sign midfielder Bundesliga midfielder Manu Kone
According to journalist Simon Phillips (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.
A number of Premier League clubs are also interested in the player, so the Blues will face stiff competition if they go through with their interest and make a move.
Chelsea have been linked with quite a few midfielders in the last few weeks. Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez is the leading candidate, with the club still doing their bit to sign him. Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo has been linked with a move to west London as well.
Other than that, there is a long-standing interest in West Ham United star Declan Rice and a smattering of links with World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.
Kone is a highly talented young midfielder, who arrived at Monchengladbach from French side Toulouse in the summer of 2021. He has been a regular starter for the German side since the move.
The French U-21 international is a central midfielder by trade who can operate as a defensive midfielder and as an attacking midfielder if required.
In terms of his attributes, Kone is a good player on the ball with his passing and dribbling to progress, he is good with physical battles and also reads the game decently well.
For a player who is still young and just about crossing the infancy of his career, Kone has a lot of first-team experience qualities that can be handy for Chelsea.

With the current state of midfield, we need more than one signing to raise the level in that department. It is all good looking to make big-money signings in the shape of Rice or Fernandez, Kone can potentially come at a cheaper price and offer something similar to what the team needs.
