Chelsea stance on Graham Potter sack amid poor results

Chelsea board of directors express trust in Graham Potter despite sack calls

After an upsetting 4-0 loss for Chelsea against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round, the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager has been under widespread criticism. The Blues sit 10th in the standings, with one win in seven league matches, creating uncertainty about Graham Potter’s management, since they are also out of all domestic cup competitions.

But according to the Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Football.London], Chlelsea’s board is confident about Potter and his future at the club, at least for now, is secure. Fans have also expressed their dissatisfaction.

Many Chelsea fans were observed screaming chants of Thomas Tuchel and Roman Abramovich during the 4-0 defeat at Etihad Stadium. Chelsea have been underwhelming in all competitions, and player injuries could be blamed for the team’s poor performance. Nine regular starters were missing for the Manchester City encounter.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has come under immense scrutiny.

The sudden dismissal of Tuchel by new owner Todd Boehly was startling, given the German manager had won three titles during his 20-month tenure with the club. Potter’s appointment has yet to yield rewards to the owner.

There are many areas where Chelsea needs to strengthen, as striker remains a primary concern for the club after they failed to produce a single shot in half-time against Manchester City, and the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has proven to be unsuccessful, with the player finding the back of the net only three times in 15 matches across all competitions.

And in September, the Blues spent £255million on additions that failed completely as Chelsea stayed sixth in the rankings at the time. The team is presently in 10th place in the Premier League, 10 points below the Champions League spots.

This is not what Boehly envisioned would occur with the appointment of Potter from Brighton. In contrast, Chelsea remain optimistic about the former Brighton manager, believing that he may yet turn around the club’s circumstances.

More Chelsea News:

It seems like the right choice because shuffling through managers could be a risky strategy at this point and could lead to instability. It’s best to give Potter some time here and then assess his progress at the end of the season, at the very least.
