Chelsea can sign Juventus star Alex Sandro on a free transfer in the summer
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Fabrizio Romano) Chelsea can sign Juventus star Alex Sandro on a free transfer in the summer with the Italian club not likely to renew his deal.
Sandro has been a long-time servant of the Turin-based club and has been a part of some of their most memorable moments in the past few seasons. However, it looks like his time there is coming to an end.
The Brazilian left-back is pretty solid and somewhat underrated. His performances often tend to go under the radar but he goes about his business as usual and keeps performing at a very good level.
Sandro has a lot of experience. He is just 31 years old and has a few more seasons of top-flight football left in him. Getting him on a free transfer will be a solid deal for any club.
Romano claims that Juventus have no intention of renewing the player’s contract as things stand. The Italian club has the option of extending his contract by a solitary year although the Italian club don’t seem keen to do that.
Potter will be looking to improve his squad depth. He has seen the Blues squad plagued by injury issues throughout this season and signing a player like Sandro for free would be a no-brainer.
However, it must be remembered that Chelsea already have two quality left-backs in Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella. The duo are talented enough to rotate amongst each other and play in that position.
Unless the Blues decide to sell one of the duo, it does not really make sense for them to sign Sandro. Hence, only time will tell if Chelsea reach a stage where they actually need to sign another left-back.
