A View From The Bridge

“Never considered anything”- Potter opens up on Chelsea winger’s potential January exit

Chelsea boss Graham Potter quashes the possibility of Christian Pulisic leaving in January

Speaking to the media ahead of the Crystal Palace game (h/t Evening Standard), Chelsea boss Graham Potter has quashed the possibility of Christian Pulisic leaving in the January transfer window.

Pulisic is currently out injured after he went into a challenge with John Stones in the league game against Manchester City last week. Potter affirms that there was no plan for him to leave now even when there wouldn’t have been any injury.

The USA international was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer when Manchester United were interested. A few weeks ago, Daily Mail reported that along with United, Arsenal and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on him.

But, with what Potter said to the media, it seems unlikely that the player will leave this month. Here’s what he exactly said (h/t Evening Standard):

“We never considered anything about that [a loan] anyway but he is a couple of months out.

“He is optimistic about coming back quicker than two months. He is in that phase with his fingers crossed and hoping his rehab goes well.”

Pulisic has not been able to feature regularly under either manager at Chelsea since he arrived at the club in the summer of 2019. It is a shame that just as when he was getting some game time, the injury came.

With the problems Chelsea have in the forward line, it is good to know that the USA international stays put at least till the end of this season.

The former Borussia Dortmund player was in good form during the World Cup. We can hope that when he returns from injury, that sort of form is repeated in Chelsea colours.

Our form is rotten at the moment. A potentially tricky game against Crystal Palace lies in wait on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. With where we are, no game is a gimme (it never is in the Premier League anyway).

A good performance against the Eagles can reignite some confidence, which would be helpful going into the Liverpool game the following weekend.
