A View From The Bridge

Chelsea in touch with South American World Cup winning Premier League star

Chelsea are in contact for Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football. London), Chelsea are in contact for Argentina’s World Cup-winning star Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Mac Allister has been having the season of his career. His performances for club and country have earned him a lot of plaudits and he was one of the stand-out stars in Qatar just a month ago.

The talented Argentinian on full show is a delight to watch. The way he plays and his creative influence on the game make him a great player and he was key to his nation’s World Cup win.

Mac Allister has also been a huge player for Brighton this season, first under Graham Potter and then Roberto de Zerbi. In fact, the latter has managed to bring the best out of the talented midfielder.

Chelsea are said to be interested in the 24-year-old attacking midfielder. It comes as no surprise considering that our manager right now is Potter and he knows Mac Allister all too well.

However, the Blues need to figure out why they even need the Brighton man in the first place. They have a squad overflowing with talent and enough profiles similar to Mac Allister.

Although we can do with reinforcement in midfield, the Argentinian is not the kind of player we need. Mac Allister is very similar to our star boy Mason Mount and in principle will compete for the same position.

What we actually need in midfield though are players for the Jorginho/ N’Golo Kante position. The duo are ageing and need to be replaced in the next few seasons and Mac-Allister is definitely not the answer.

More Chelsea News:

Unless something drastic happens and Mount leaves in the near future, Chelsea must not be looking to sign the Brighton star. We will not be doing justice to his talent and it is not fair for either party.
