Barcelona are interested in re-signing Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
According to Standard Sport, Barcelona are interested in re-signing Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, months after selling him to the Blues in the summer transfer window.
On the deadline day of the summer window, Chelsea signed Aubameyang from Barcelona for a reported fee of around £10m plus letting go of defender Marcos Alonso to the other side.
In the recent movements among the clubs with the January window open, the Blues have signed Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid for the rest of this season.
Once that deal was done, Atleti have enquired about the possibility to sign Aubameyang to solve their goal-scoring issues. But, since the Gabonese striker played for Barcelona before coming to Chelsea, FIFA rules suggest that a player can only represent two teams in a season.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has updated us that Barca wants to sign the 33-year-old only if it is a free transfer and if Memphis Depay leaves. Atleti are also interested in the latter.
So, it is all a bit confusing at the moment. One thing is for sure Chelsea have got the Felix deal over the line and he will be available to face Fulham in the league on Thursday (January 12). Aubameyang is back for this game, but we are not sure about his future at Stamford Bridge.
The 33-year-old, who joined Barcelona in January 2022 and had a good half-season with them, has struggled to make an impact in Chelsea colours.

So, it might not be a bad idea if he goes back to Spain and continue his good work there. Chelsea, who have signed Felix, are looking at the possibility of getting Marcus Thuram this month. If Aubameyang leaves, there would be a spot to be had for the Frenchman to come and score some goals for us.
