Transfer News: Stan Collymore believes Inter Milan and The Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries should sign for Chelsea
Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that Inter Milan and The Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries should sign for Chelsea.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old as Graham Potter looks to bring in a new deputy at right-back for Reece James who has struggled with injuries as of late.
It is believed that the Nerrazzuri will demand a fee of around £50 million for their star defender. Despite hesitancy to sell the right-back, the Italian club may be open to a sale due to their financial situation.
Now, former Forest striker Collymore, while speaking exclusively to Caught Offside, believes that the Dutchman should make a move to west London.
“He’s a good technician, would fit in well with Chelsea’s youngsters, philosophy and potentially could add much-needed goals and assists.”
Dumfries has been excellent for Inter this season. A regular for his club, the right-back has played in 20 games this season in all competitions, scoring two and assisting another three in the process.
The defender made the Netherlands squad for the World Cup this year, where he has shown everyone his potential. The 26-year-old was the hero for his country during their 3-1 win over USMNT in the Round of 16 on Saturday (3 November), where the Dutchman was involved in all the goals, scoring one and assisting another two.
Chelsea need to add an understudy for James. The 22-year-old has been our best player but is currently out on the sidelines after picking up an injury. His absence on the pitch has been felt, with Graham Potter using multiple players to fill in for the Englishman but to no avail.

Should Dumfries continue his form at the World Cup, the Blues could be tempted to make an offer for him in January. While the Nerazzurri will likely do all they can to keep their defender if Potter wants the Dutchman then it will be wise for the board to back him up.
