Portuguese international Joao Felix will resolve his future at Spanish club Atletico Madrid after the World Cup. Chelsea, along with Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in the 23-year-old forward.
The forward has fallen out of favour under coach Diego Simeone and this prompted the La Liga side to look to sell the player in January. It is believed that the Madrid-based club have put a £86 million price tag on the young forward.
Felix, who is currently in Qatar for the World Cup, is not distracted by such transfer talks. Speaking ahead of his side’s game against Morocco in the Quarter-finals, the 23-year-old said that he was completely focused on the tournament (h/t Evening Standard).
“I am focused 100 per cent here on the national squad. I am concentrated on giving a good performance to help this team, to help the Portugal team, and to give people happiness. Atletico is something I have to look at when the World Cup ends. I am 100 per cent focused here.”
The former Benfica man has been enjoying a very successful World Cup so far with Portugal. The 23-year-old has played in three games so far and notched up two assists as the European side thrashed South Korea 6-1 in the Round of 16 earlier this week.
Graham Potter could look to add to his attack in January. Attackers like Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have struggled to prove their worth so far this season, while others like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling are yet to provide that spark up front.
Felix has been in terrific form for his country in the tournament and he would make a fine addition to our team. Simeone is known for his defensive tactics, but the player has shown what he can offer if he is allowed to attack the ball more.
However, his price would not be something that pleases the Blues’ ears. Potter is yet to make a signing under his reign and he would surely expect the board to back him similarly as they backed former manager Thomas Tuchel during the summer window earlier.
The forward will likely continue to play a big part as Portugal hope to go all the way and win their first World Cup. It remains to be seen if the Blues make any offer for the 23-year-old in the winter transfer window but if they do, it could be a step in the right direction to seal a signing that can lead our line for the next 5-7 years.
