“I’m a big fan”- France legend urges Arsenal to sign two Chelsea midfield targets

Petit tells Chelsea to 'learn from their mistakes' and avoid 'joke' transfer in January

Emmanuel Petit urges Arsenal to sign both Chelsea targets Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged his old side to sign both Brighton & Hove Albion midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, amid interest from Chelsea in both players.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been heavily linked with some midfielders, with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz also on their shortlist. They have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and it seems the Gooners want to strengthen their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have their own problems in the midfield. An ageing midfield couple with players being inconsistent has forced the Blues to reinforce this department in the coming transfer window.

And now, former Arsenal man Petit while speaking to Mega Casino (h/t Express), has urged the north London club to bring in two of Chelsea’s midfield targets.

“I’m a big fan of two players from Brighton: Alexis Mac Alister and Moises Caicedo. Mac Alister, I said this last season before he won the World Cup, he is a guy that does everything in the midfield. He sets the tempo, carries the ball. Technically, he is very good. He scores goals. The guy that sits next to him at Brighton, Caicedo, he is excellent. If Arsenal could take both of those players, two guys who know each other, they would fit perfectly at the club. They would do everything that Arteta wants in midfield.”

Mac Allister has had the time of his life in Qatar, helping Argentina win the World Cup. The 23-year-old only missed one game for his country and even went on to register an assist in the final against France that saw the South American side win the game 4-2 on penalties after it ended 3-3.

He has been linked with a move to west London where he could reunite with former coach Graham Potter. The Argentina international has also been enjoying a decent season in the league, scoring five goals in 14 league appearances.

Caicedo too is of interest to the Blues along with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United also keeping tabs on him. The 21-year-old has been exceptional for the Seagulls this season and Potter could do with a midfielder like him, especially with N’Golo Kante struggling to stay fit so far this campaign.

While both the London clubs have their reasons to reinforce their midfield, it will be wise for the Blues to up their interest and get serious about making bids for either or both of the players. With the transfer window knocking on the door, it remains to be seen if either of the rival clubs can sign any of the midfielders.
