Transfer News: Chelsea target Jonathan David drops hint on his future
LOSC Lille and Canada international striker Jonathan David has hinted that he would like to play in the Premier League. This comes amid interest from Chelsea in the striker.
David is currently in Qatar for the World Cup and featured in all three games for his country. When asked about his future and rumours linking him to a move to the Premier League, this is what the 22-year-old had to say (h/t Metro):
“I am aware of nothing like that. When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment. What happens after I do not know, we will have to see. The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day.”
The striker has been in excellent form in the French League this season. He has started in all 15 league games for his side, scoring nine goals in the process.
Graham Potter needs to add a striker to his squad. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has struggled for form this season, while young striker Armando Broja needs to improve more before he can lead the Blue’s attack.
Aubameyang, who is 33 also cannot be considered a long-term player for his position. As such, there is a need to reinforce our attacking line-up with young and bright talents and David makes a fine choice.
He has good experience under his belt during his time at Lille and is also a regular for his country. Also, the youngster is just 22 and is yet to reach his prime age, which is usually considered between 25-28.
David would make an excellent signing for Potter, who will also head into his first transfer window as Chelsea’s coach. The 22-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2025 (transfermarkt) and it will be surprising to see the French side entertaining any offer for the striker that doesn’t meet whatever their valuation of the player may be.

David looks like a smart bet. We can’t afford to get our next big signing in the centre-forward area wrong. There’s just been too many of them that haven’t gone our way and too many that have seemed like money down the drain. Hopefully, the Canadian star breaks that run.
