Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign the Atletico Madrid duo of Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha, according to the Evening Standard (h/t Express). This comes after striker Armando Broja tore his ACL and is now expected to miss the rest of the season.
Broja featured during the Blue’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Aston Villa last week. The 21-year-old suffered significant damage to his knee ligaments and now needs surgery. This injury blow leaves Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only natural striker in the team.
Germany international Kai Havertz has also led the line through the middle at times, but the Blues are weighing up a move to bring in a new striker next month. And they have been offered the golden opportunity to bring in either of the Atletico forwards.
Cunha is deemed a surplus to requirements at the Wanda Metropolitano. The 23-year-old joined the club in 2021 and has failed to establish himself as a regular. The Brazilian international has featured in 17 games so far in all competitions, failing to find the back of the net in any.
The Brazilian has interest from rival clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, although it is believed that the Blues could trump them both financially and this has caused concerns to both the West Midlands-based clubs.
Felix, on the other hand has strained his relationship with manager Diego Simeone and is expected to leave the Spanish capital. The 23-year-old Portuguese was one of the better players for his country in the World Cup, where he showed his class and potential to everyone.
Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in the 23-year-old, with Los Colchoneros expected to demand £86 million for his services. While the price may prove to be a stumbling block, he has shown his worth and could make an excellent signing for Graham Potter.
The Blues have been also been linked with other strikers like Youssoufa Moukoko and Memphis Depay. While Potter has a host of options to choose from, it remains to be seen who- if any is signed during the winter transfer window.
