Transfer News: Chelsea have been offered the opportunity to sign Adrien Rabiot
According to 90min (h/t Express), Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Juventus and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The midfielder also has interest from a host of clubs including Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool.
The 27-year-old came close to making a switch to the Premier League in the summer, with the Red Devils holding talks with his entourage about a move. However, negotiations broke down over the salary demands of the player.
Rabiot sees his current contract expire at the end of this season, and Juventus want to cash in whatever they can next month, rather than lose him for free next summer. As such, the midfielder is likely to available for a cut-fee price in January.
The midfielder has been in good form for the past few months. With Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante injured, the 27-year-old has stepped in for his country at the World Cup featuring in five games and scoring one goal in the process.
He missed out on the 2-0 semi-final win over Morocco due to a cold but is now back in contention to start the final against Argentina this Sunday (December 18). For the Old Lady to he has stepped up, in what has been a disappointing season so far.
Rabiot has played 16 games for the Turin-based club in all competitions, scoring five goals in the process. The midfielder has shown that he can be relied upon when needed and this is the type of player that Graham Potter could do with.
Chelsea have struggled for a dominant figure in their midfield this season. Injury to Kante has taken its toll with the other players struggling to step up like the Frenchman. Rabiot shares similar traits with his compatriot and could make a good replacement for him in the team going forward.
