Transfer News: Chelsea could stand a chance to land 25-year-old Barcelona star

Chelsea could be an option for Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong

Speaking to Give Me Sport, popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea could be a serious option for Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong if he chooses to leave the Spanish club.

De Jong has been pretty adamant about the fact that he’d love to stay in Barcelona for a long time. However, Romano thinks the Blues will have a real chance of signing him should he change his mind.

The Dutch midfielder is one of the best in the world in his position and his quality is spectacular. He can make things that others find difficult to do look very simple and can run a game on his own.

Frenkie is also capable of playing in a multitude of positions. He can play as an interior 8, a holding six, a part of a double pivot and also as a centre-back. The Dutchman looks comfortable in all these positions too.

After a summer during which he was constantly linked with an exit from the club, Frenkie found himself on the bench to start this season off. However, he quickly bounced back with his performance on the pitch.

The 25-year-old has been having an excellent season with Barcelona and was also one of the standout performers for the Netherlands in the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar.

Here is what Romano had to say about Frenkie’s chances of joining Chelsea and it is an interesting one to keep an eye out for.

“Let’s remember, last summer, Chelsea also wanted him – not just Manchester United. So I would always keep an eye on Chelsea for Frenkie de Jong in case he changes his mind one day.”

Frenkie right now appears determined to stay in Barcelona. He is a crucial part of Xavi’s team there and continues to be important at the club. However, things could change in the future.

All that Chelsea can ensure is to be aware and wait for the opportunity when it comes to Frenkie and if it presents itself, jump at it as it would definitely be a worthy one.
