Report: Chelsea likely to sign this 18-year-old PL starlet over Eredivisie ace

Romeo Lavia more likely to join Chelsea than Edson Alvarez

According to journalist Simon Phillips while speaking to GiveMeSport as quoted by Football. London, Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is more likely to join Chelsea than Ajax Amsterdam star Edson Alvarez.

The Blues have been heavily linked with moves for both players in the past transfer window but the former Manchester City starlet right now is the likelier of the two to make the switch to West London.

Lavia joined Southampton from Manchester City in the summer. The 18-year-old Belgian is very highly rated and has been regarded as a wonderkid to watch out for ever since his time at Manchester.

The Belgian midfielder has already made his Premier League debut for the Saints, playing seven times for them this season even managing to score his first senior goal during this time.

Having just moved to Southampton, it will be surprising to see Lavia jump ship in January. However, the Blues are looking for a replacement for N’Golo Kante in the future and Lavia can be the answer in the summer.

He is much younger than Edson Alvarez and needs time to develop. The Mexican is much more ready to be involved immediately at the top level than Lavia is and it remains to be seen who the Blues go for.

Chelsea tried to sign Romo Lavia on transfer deadline day.

Kante and Jorginho are both on the wrong side of thirties and need to be replaced in the near future. Although we have a plethora of young midfielder options, none of them actually play in the holding role.

Lavia seems to have a very bright future in the game. It is best that he continues his development with Southampton and there will be a time when he is ready for the big move.

The Belgian wonderkid will be a great player to sign for the Blues. However, they will have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity to snap him up.
