As quoted by Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has commented on the future of Chelsea target Joao Felix, suggesting uncertainity about his future in the Spanish capital.
Romano further mentioned that the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is still in contact with the English clubs to crack a deal in the coming transfer window.
Among the Premier League clubs interested in signing the Portugal international, London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are the prominent names, while Manchester United are also in the race.
Earlier in the month, it was reported that Atleti are interested in letting go of the forward, who has fallen out of favour under Simeone since joining from Benfica.
Felix had an excellent World Cup for Portugal despite his country falling short of the dream of winning the title, by losing to Morocco in the quarter-final.
The 23-year-old is a versatile forward who can play in any position across the forward line. He is best suited to playing as a number 10 or as a support striker though, as he can hurt any team by finding space between the lines and running at the defence with the ball at his feet.
The former Benfica star is a creative player who can assist goals and also score them. If we look at his last season in Portugal before leaving for Spain, he scored 15 goals and assisted nine in 26 league games.
Despite a 2-0 win over Bournemouth upon the resumption of this season, it is clear that Chelsea need options in the forward line. Adding Felix to the team will help in creating a different dimension team going forward.
Now, it depends on whether Graham Potter wants to work with the player and reinvigorate his stagnated club career. If he does, then we should sanction the move for him.
