According to Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews (h/t Football.London), Inter Milan have made a decision to sell Dutch international Denzel Dumfries to meet their financial targets with Chelsea among the clubs interested.
The Blues are accompanied by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the race to sign the wing-back. He is currently in Qatar representing his country in the World Cup.
Dumfries has had an excellent tournament so far, both going forward and defensively. He scored one and assisted two in the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over the USA in the last-16 stage. He and his team now prepare to face Argentina in the quarter-final on Friday (December 9).
A few days ago, Football.London reported that Inter have slapped a £50m price tag on the 26-year-old as they look to ward off interest from clubs. But, the latest update is that the Serie A giants are ready to sacrifice this player to meet the financial targets amidst the turmoil.
It was revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing a right wing-back as they are worried at the number of injuries Reece James has picked up in the last 12 months. Dumfries has a profile similar to the Englishman.
Aside from doing well in the World Cup, the Dutch international has had a great time with the Nerazzurri as well. In the first half of this season, he scored one goal and assisted three in 15 league appearances playing as a wing-back.
The 26-year-old is great going forward and has a good cross in him. His defensive game has improved over the years, which makes him an important cog of any team on that right-hand side.
He could be an ideal foil for James at Chelsea. Both can play either as a wing-back or as a wide centre-back. If the club manage to Dumfries, manager Graham Potter would have a chance to play both of them in the two positions mentioned or rotate one for the other without any drop-off in quality.
Chelsea and Arsenal are snubbing an English left winger who is currently playing for Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
It has been reported that Chelsea have dispatched their scout in pursuit of the German attacker Francis Onyeka.
